Brief description about salt industry and the company
Natural salt production from sea water is one of the traditionally industries in Sri Lanka coming fromthousands of years ago. Commercial production of salt at Hambantota began in 1938 under the guidance of then Government Agent of Hambantota Mr. Leonard Woolf who brought the salterns under Salt Department. Salt Department was converted to Salt Corporation in 1970 and then in 1996 Lanka Salt Limited was formed to manage the salterns at Hambantota.
